You're one click away - http://www.umac.ca/vote/ and submit your vote - Best Website is the last category.  Voting closes June 17 at 6:00 pm.

Here are this year's submissions for Urban X-Posure 2002 - Canada's Urban Music Awards. The event takes place Wednesday, July 31 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto.

The top three vote-getters per category will become the official nominees for this year's Urban X-Posure 2002 and will be announced at a later date.

Please vote in every category and remember you can only vote once!

However, if you are using a computer in a networked environment, such as an office or public library, you may be sharing the same IP address with the other computers in your office/library and may not be able to vote since we only allow one vote per PC. If you haven't heard of Shawn Hewitt yet ...you will!  This first edition of Funk N' Soul would be incomplete without Canada's top Soultress, Divine Earth Essence.  Joining Divine will be Juno award winning artist Haydain Neale "jacksoul".  An ever-popular voice on our national R&B scene, Wade O. Brown will add his honey sweet voice to the soul crusade.  The night will continue to sizzle as Julie Crochetiere of "Sugar Jones" makes a special solo appearance to pay homage to many of her musical influences.  This night’s performances will also include the Hummingbird Tassa Band, and Soular.

DE LA SOUL & CHOCLAIR – THURSDAY, JUNE 6

Check out this night that is sure to bring the house down at Kool Haus!  If you know a lil' something about the convergence of hip and hop, you're no doubt familiar with Toronto's Choclair. Chances are, you've probably even heard of one Kareem Blake.  "Memoirs of Blake Savage is just another way to let me express myself," explains Mr. Savage himself. "I live my life as Kareem Blake and have to deal with situations through that. And then all of a sudden, I become Choclair and have to deal with those situations and still balance out my Kareem Blake life. So it's just a way of digging even deeper into myself, and really putting myself out there."

With De La Soul’s colourful, neo-psychedelic collage of samples and styles, plus the Long Island trio's low-key, clever rhymes and goofy humour, the album sounded like nothing else in hip-hop. Where most of their contemporaries drew directly from old-school rap, funk, or Public Enemy's dense sonic barrage, De La Soul was gentler and more eclectic, taking in not only funk and soul, but also pop, jazz, reggae, and psychedelia.
